No Thank You!

Downtown San Jose was buzzing with people on Monday when they hosted the event in which males would wear high heels. This is symbolizing what it would be like to walk a mile in women’s shoes.

The YWCA put on the event and this was their 7th time holding it and is looking to keep going strong. It was held on April 22, 2009 and it was to support, and promote sexual assault awareness.

Confusion was my first reaction because I have never experienced something like this, mainly because I do not really attend events of this nature. I also am not a huge fan of downtown areas in big cities so I get tense when there is a lot of people I do not know and large buildings all around.

The crowd was buzzing with eagerness to start the walk, which started at Plaza de Ceaser Chavez. This is where I observed the event and was fairly surprised at how many people showed up. At this location I ended up running into a lady named Heidi Lawson whom was a guest in our PR 193 class and Works for the YWCA as the Community Relations Manager.

Along with confusion I was kind of excited seeing as I do enjoy new things and seeing a bunch of men walking in heels is pretty amusing to see. A few of the men participating looked very uncomfortable, and for good reason seeing as high heels are made for the slim foot of a woman.

The volunteers were very nice and knowledgeable about the event and were able to point me in the right direction when I had questions. Going to the event alone was not a bad idea because it forced me to go out and meet people and the other people at the event were very friendly.

There were a lot of families that attended the event meaning more specifically there were more children there than I thought I would see. This was very impactful because this was showing that men were not just drug there by their wives.

I have felt the “fish out of water” feeling a lot when traveling to other countries and even states but this was a different feeling. The feeling I felt was more so one of emotion because I have never been to events like this and to see strangers in a community come together for a cause is extremely moving.

Ad redirect

Synopsis of ad now: the ad is red background with a picture of a surfer on the top with the company's name, Sticky Bumps, and below the picture are the products they sell: Wax, Traction Pads, Leashes, and Board Bags. It is directed at an older audience whom know how to surf already.

How to redirect the ad: I would redirect the ad to a younger audience and by doing this I would change the picture to a younger child using the same products that Sticky Bumps sells. I would also change the colors to brighter more vibrant colors that will attract a child's eye more.

As far as the font it is a little plain for an ad targeting a younger surfer child. Today children like crazy style writing and loud objects to get them excited because they want to be noticed.

I would change the placement of the products and the picture int he ad. I would have the picture in the middle but cropped in a circle with the products surrounding the picture. All but one year the San Jose Sharks have stayed true to form by having a great regular season then falling apart when the pressure of the playoffs comes along. This has been a trend for the Sharks as soon as getting to the playoffs became routine. As routine as it is that the Sharks make the playoffs it is just as normal to see them lose out early because they do not execute during the playoffs.
Major problems for the Sharks are easy to see, lack of intensity, lack of execution, and lack of toughness are all major contributors to their dismal playoff history. The Sharks seem to curl up in a ball whenever they are expected to be "that team" that should win the Stanley Cup. The pressure that has been put on the Sharks in the last 4 years to win the Stanley Cup has gotten a coach fired and some moves made in the roster. Another reason the Sharks have not had any success in the playoffs is the fact that their "Big" players do not show up like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. They should be leading the team but always lack the numbers that leaders should have like a Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin or a Nicklas Lidstrom. Again this year the Sharks are staying true to form being down 2-0 to the Ducks.

The way I see it...

" People do not care about what you did yesterday. The were not allowed to make music under the Saddam regime but since the American invasion they have received more death threats and forced to move. Started off with trying to find the background on Heavy Metal in Baghdad. lead into the movement to Syria and that is where they made their first record and how their lives were put into their first album. Asked good questions that lead to the bands explanations of why they wrote their music. The band was very straight forward and did not try to avoid any questions from my point of view. The interviewer was very educated about the band and their history. The connection between the interviewer and interviewee is one of wanting the band to open up and share their story. She ws trying to guide the band to inform and share their stories. The interviewer was good about quoting the band and making them comfortable by having previous knowledge. The interviewer had good excerpts from the band's songs and used them to explain their views and past experiences while connecting it with the music. The interviewer was trying to make the band out to be victims of the social norms in Baghdad and that is why they now live in the United States. The interviewer was very good at cutting down dead time. I think there was only a few moments that had any sort of dead time. I learned that being prepared and doing homework on your interviewee is very important and promotion is also a key part. Every couple minutes they would reintroduce all the people being interviewed and also the cause of them being there.

IMHO

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/world/la-fg-mexico-arms-race15-2009mar15,0,229992.story
This story really upsets me because people have been going nuts about Mexico for a while now but not everywhere is so bad. This place is Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo which is a beautiful place and also the destination of my spring break trip. I have been there twice already and the place is amazing and it is easy to stay out of trouble. The ones who get in trouble and end up having problems are the ones whom provoke them not the ones who stay out of trouble. All people have been reporting about Mexico is bad things because of the Drug War but America should be backing Mexico if there stance is anti-drug which almost every political stance is. The news should be focusing more on how beautiful Mexico is but blood is what makes news so it does not surprise me that this is the only thing being reported. The times I have been down there I have been able to stay out of trouble but also never heard any gun fire or bombs or rockets so I am going down with an open mind and other people should too. The only place that is really bad is the border towns which SHOULD be avoided, not the entire country.
The other reasons why this article bugs me is because they seem so nonchalant about the smuggling of Miltary weapons into the country and that they cannot find the cause of it. If the military is missing weapons or has a rouge person sellling these weapons to the drug lords it should be stopped. They should put a stronger enforcement on keeping tack of weapons because grenades and guns and missles are large items to be missing.

Mystery Character

I'm a kid around the age of 9 years old and I live in a very small town. I wear a read coat with brown pants and a light blue beanie. I tend to waddle around town because I am to wide to walk normally. I can do pretty much whatever I want because my mom is a huge push over and I come up with some pretty crazy ideas. I have 3 other friends with whom I hangout with all the time and go on these crazy adventures with. They say they don't like me all the time but I know they do. could probably seat 175 people or more. The room was buzzing with business people having meetings, a birthday for an older lady probably in her late 50's early 60's and the normal husband and wife combos scatter amongst the crowd. The room was filled with the smells of pizza, pasta, and grilled meats. The aroma was of sauces sizzling on the stove with duck "ragu," citrus cream sauces and pizzas with pepperoni, prosciutto, and fresh basil. Other than the food the wine at the tables filled the air as well. A few interesting things about me are that I am a current member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Also I grew up surfing and I love the ocean, it is like my second home. I transferred from University of Hawaii Manoa to San Jose State so I have lived in Hawaii. I also played ice hockey from the age of 5 till 18 and I have traveled many places in the world to play. My best and worst characteristic is the same thing and it is that I am a very laid back person.

Final Exam LEADS

Who Lead: An unidentified male was robbed an beaten around 9 a.m. this morning in his apartment located in Mt. All was normal on this day with big waves accompanied by tons of people. Little did I know that this day would challenge my body's ability to stay calm in a fight or flight situation. After getting a couple waves the last one that day change my entire outlook on life. First I was paddling and the next thing I know I am stuck in between the reef looking up at the glare of the sun shinning through the water. Not the normal day in paradise most people would expect.

During this time I spent underwater, which seemed like an eternity, I was wrestling with the thoughts of dying as well as staying calm so I could get myself out of this mess. I was taught when a situation like this occurs to keep your eyes open, look for a gap in the reef, and push off when there is a break in the waves. Training and actual experiences are two completely different situations and not matter how I trained I would never be ready for this day.

As I was gaining my composure and telling myself to stay calm so I can make it out I felt a sense of relief because the ocean is my second home. It took me a while to understand this but once I did I could feel the water begin to slow down and that is when I made the move. I shot out of this god forsaken hole in the reef and poked my head out of the water as if I were a sea turtle only to be struck by yet another on coming wave. Thankfully that wave took me close enough to shore so I was out of trouble. I was ALIVE!

Sitting there on the beach, broken board and cuts all over, I had a slight grin on my face. I know that I had probably become to confident in the ocean and she was just letting my know who was in charge. I sat there with looking at a sunset that, to me, was the most beautiful thing in the entire world with a beer in hand thinking about how the day change from the start to that moment. I will never forget this day for the rest of my life.

Sports Broadcast

The crowd of 10,000 saw the SaberCats defeat their rival the Arizona Rattlers 63-43.

The game, however, was overshadowed by the Arena Bowl trophy and banner presentation.

Mark Grieb was outstanding completing 22 of 33 passes for three touchdowns.

Steve Watson led the defense with 6 tackles 2 of those being sacks for a total of 9 yards.

The arena provided good scenery with the beloved saber kittens catching everyone’s eyes.

The defending champion SaberCats are en route to another fantastic seasons if they play the

way they did on Saturday.

Sabercats

Home Opener Success for SaberCats
type='text'>About Me

My name is Aaron Moss, I am 22 years old and not getting any younger. I am originally from San Jose but I have also lived in Hawaii. I am a transfer student from University of Hawaii Manoa on Oahu.
I grew up surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding but also I played ice hockey for almost 12 years. I have traveled to tons of places around the world and I love to travel and go to new places.

I have been private schooled my entire life, which most people think is pretty weird but I liked it a lot. I went to St. Martins in San Jose and from there proceeded to go to St. Francis High School in Mt. View ( if you went to a rival school, do not hate because we were the best!).

I enjoy watching sports but most of all hockey because I played but I also worked for the San Jose Sharks for 6 years doing video work for the coaches and the scouts. It was a lot of fun learning how a professional team works, especially behind the scenes.

Well I hope you all learned enough about me.
