The news story that I am doing is about the San Jose Sharks and their lack of success in the Stanley Cup playoffs. All but one year the San Jose Sharks have stayed true to form by having a great regular season then falling apart when the pressure of the playoffs comes along. This has been a trend for the Sharks as soon as getting to the playoffs became routine. As routine as it is that the Sharks make the playoffs it is just as normal to see them lose out early because they do not execute during the playoffs.
Major problems for the Sharks are easy to see, lack of intensity, lack of execution, and lack of toughness are all major contributors to their dismal playoff history. The Sharks seem to curl up in a ball whenever they are expected to be "that team" that should win the Stanley Cup. The pressure that has been put on the Sharks in the last 4 years to win the Stanley Cup has gotten a coach fired and some moves made in the roster. Another reason the Sharks have not had any success in the playoffs is the fact that their "Big" players do not show up like Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau. They should be leading the team but always lack the numbers that leaders should have like a Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin or a Nicklas Lidstrom. Again this year the Sharks are staying true to form being down 2-0 to the Ducks.
